I'm getting interested in this, in spite of my resolution to not engage in Any More Projects... ;-)

If relatively simple single-conversion receive converter were designed using a sharp, passive preselector, 29mhz +7 dBm LO and a Mini-Circuits passive mixer, you could figure about 3dB loss in the preselector and 5db in the mixer, for a total loss of ~8dB.

Not knowing anything about the 472-479 khz average noise floor and propagation, is that good enough?
