A ground mounted vertical is an invitation for rf in the shack as well as in
all of the other rooms. Even 100 watts from a ground mounted vertical places a
huge rf field all around the house. This can be proven using an rf signal
strength meter and measuring the radiated field strength from a vertical and
then measure the field from a horizontal antenna. If a vertical is working
correctly it has a very low angle of radiation.....right thru your house.
Verticals installed well away from the shack keep the field strength in the
shack at much lower levels.
