Randy The simplest setup is to run your RF connections Flex to KPA to KAT to antenna. Run the PTT cable from the Flex to the KAT and from the KAT to the KPA (per KAT500 manual)
Both units will auto band switch . To use the KAT select your antenna (1,2,3) and select Mode Auto To use the Amp, just set it to Oper. Make sure your Flex set for 30 watts output. In order to put the KAT500 under computer control, you can use the USB cable supplied with the KAT and the KAT utility downloaded from http://www.elecraft.com/KAT500/kat500_software.htm In to put the KPA under computer control you'll need either a physical serial port or a USB serial adapter and a straight through (not null modem) serial cable. Elecraft has a KPA-500 Utility at http://www.elecraft.com/KPA500/kpa500_software.htm or the preferred method is to use DDUtil which supports the KPA500 and allows you to specify the correct Flex Drive settings for each band when you are using the KPA-5000 No other cabling is required. There is a serial port that runs between the amp and ATU and the amp can be controlled by a K3 and other various radios as per the manual. I know there are some people out there that run Flex's with these amps-I have had QSO's with them. Is there a way for PowerSDR to control these? I assume there would be a cable with proprietary pin-outs needed. I did check the Flex Knowledgbase and Google but could not find anything useful.
