I accidentially discovered this problem while working some Dx. My noise level was at –140 when I decided to change bands. Upon changing bands, I went to tune the antenna. Noticed the tuner was not powered on , when I turned on the ac power to the tuner, the noise level on the 5000A went from –140 to –120.
Unacceptable of course. Actions Taken so Far. 1. Redid the station ground , using new 1in braid. Fastened to 8 ft ground rod. (No Joy) 2. Ferrite chokes on all leads (coax, power lines, etc) No Joy 3. Replaced power supply with one that I’ve used with no noise problems. (No Joy) I’m out of Joy now. I’ve tried everything that I’ve utilized in past experience dealing with noise/rfi. Any ideas, suggestions, past experience that can be passed on.
