A more reliable method is to tack solder two wires to the back of the
switch. The wires can be brought out along the side of the front panel
without drilling any holes. You can attach a switch to these wires or simply
twist them together when you want to power up the 5000 remotely. I have
operated my 5000 remotely for years from all over the country. My fear about
using tape is that the tape will unglue itself when you are 2,000 miles
away. Unless you have a junior op back home, you are off the air.

Subject: [Flexradio] Remoting power on the Flex 5000

It is quite easy to remote the power on and off on the Flex 3000. The front
panel power switch toggles on and off. One merely depesses the switch to the
"on" position and the radio can be turned on and off by remotely applying 12
VDC to the radio. There are several manufacturers that produce Internet AC
power control units. Simply by plugging the Flex power supply into one of
the AC ports, the flex 3000 can be remotely powered.

Unfortunately, the Flex 5000 does not have a turn-on, turn-off front power
switch. Its power switch does not toggle on and off; one depresses the
switch, then releases to turn the radio on and off. However, I found by
keeping the front power switch mechanically depressed, it can be remotely
powered just like the 3000. Simply by putting a piece of industrial grade
tape over the power switch while it is depressed allows one to remotely
power the 5000 on and off by simply remotely applying 12 Volts as with the
3000.
