Very good analysis by SM5BSZ. In addition to the points he makes about Flex transmitters, the question he asks about the ARRL reviews seems to raise a serious problem. ARRL has identified key-click problems and certain other transmitter artifacts in their reviews, but this phase noise issue is never mentioned -- despite the 43 dB difference in transmitter quality that he highlights. As Lars points out, this is the difference between 50 mW and a kilowatt. And as he further comments, manufacturers could very likely improve transmitted signal quality without increasing production cost.
