Hi All:

I also have a 5K with the V/U module. My 2 meter unit was modified by Flex
to reduce its power but make the power output more stable. I don't need the
full output because I am driving either a 150 W brick or a M2 1 kW SS amp
which requires very little drive.

However, I AM upset by all of the birdies. For example, on 222, there is a
major birdie just below 222.1, whether the DENI transverter is on or not. I
use the 28 MHz transverter port for the 222 and 1296 transverters. I am
about to be active, thanks to the help of K0MHC and K5LLL, on 902, 2304.
3456 and 10 GHz using the K3TUF interface board hooked to the FlexWire port
for switching transverters, three of which (2304, 3456 and 10 GHz) will be
on the rotating mast between the 6 and 2 meter beams.

I had ordered a 6300 in hopes of getting rid of the birdies and other
unexplained phenomena I find in the 5K, but discovered that it doesn't have
the capability that the 5 K has for driving and switching transverters. So I
cancelled the order.

I would still like to go the 6K series but won't until they have similar
transverter driving and switching capabilities as the 5K.

At present, I do not work any bands below 50 MHz, so the outstanding HF
performance of the 6K series is not factor with me.

73,

Bill Tynan, W3XO/5 EM00

I agree. My 5000 also has the VU installed and I would never consider
selling it. Where else will I ever find a transceiver as capable as this
one? It's not a sellers market at the moment and most of the 5000's coming
on the market do not have the VU. I would also keep mine as a spare long
before I would ever consider selling it.

It is worth what someone will pay for it in a reasonable time. None of us
may agree or be pleased with the reality of the market place but it is what
it is. Lots of F5K-A coming on the market. Supply and demand are at work
in the free market capitalistic system. I have one and am not thrilled with
it being devalued but to me it is just a paper loss as I will not likely
sell it. Before I would sell cheap I'd keep it as a backup rig. It isn't
obsolete irrespective of how any game may have supposedly changed or
advertising hyperbole is worded. The 5K is still better than a whole
segment of new radios on the market.

The above is my opinion. You may choose to think otherwise, it is one of our
privileges not too infringed on yet.
