Actually, that was Andy's idea, but I do agree with it entirely.

I'm not saying to de-quat FlightGear, just to get the code out of the
mouse routines and into the viewer, where it belongs.  We need to be
able to rotate the view with the keyboard or joystick (for example) as
well as the mouse, and that's impractical if some of the code is
hardwired to one input device and cannot be reused.  I don't much care
if the new viewer code ends up using quaternions or regular matrices,
as long as it works.
