Strange, I had no problem at all with any of my Debian installations and I'm running GeForce cards on all the boxes I'm responsible for. Yes, the debian installer isn't intended to be an entertainment experience, and it *allows* you to make decisions (which I consider a feature) :-) Debian isn't for everyone though and you certainly can produce a fine system based on other distributions.
