I have much improved the JSBSim shuttle flight model. In a few minutes I
will commit the modified shuttle.xml file to the JSBSim repository. This
can be moved to the BASE PACKAGE immediately, or sooner. ;-)

Use this command line:

fgfs --aircraft=shuttle --offset-distance=8.0 --altitude=15000 --pitch=-20
.0 --vc=300

If someone knows the shuttle runway identifier I'd like to know what it
is. Then we could land in the right place.

Procedure:

1) Establish an 18 degree downward pitch angle
2) When you reach 10,000 ft. push over to 20 degrees below the horizon to
pick up speed.
3) At 2,500 ft AGL begin a slow flare and establish a 3 degree glideslope.
4) Aim close and touch down on the runway at less than 3 ft/sec touchdown
rate of descent. Airspeed at Main Gear WOW should be roughly 220 knots.
5) Push the nose over later and brake like hell.

Your rollout will likely be about 8,000-10,000 feet. I'll try and add a
drag chute later. :-)
