There is no "right" unless you can simulate the eye/brain, which you cannot. 
The eye is going to make it brighter than it really is at dawn.  Those MSFS
shots look good,  even if they aren't "correct" (not good enough to get me to
waste $50 on the program though ;-)).

Are you saying that the lighting would then be adjustable based on view?  You
didn't infer that earlier.  If so,  I'll sit tight.

flight simulator.  Messing with ambient lighting for the entire scene may not
the best approach.  It certainly doesn't address night illumintation.  Again,
if anyone has any suggestions on addressing cockpit lighting, I'd be very
grateful.
