You can definitely do that. Just list the 0.9.7 tree first in your --fg-scenery path, i.e.:
--fg-scenery=/stage/fgfs04/curt/Scenery-0.9.7;/stage/fgfs04/curt/Scenery-0.9.5
You may see odd cracks at the borders between 0.9.7 and 0.9.5 scenery but I suspect they would be fairly minor.
