Well, I submitted it.  Alas, it didn't go well.  You can follow the

If this was a project that I used on a daily basis, I might push
harder or work more on a solution.  But sorry, I'm just not up for
debugging the Cygwin DLL on (gack) windows.  I just don't swing that
way.

Anyway, I've done my good deed.  If anyone more, er, politic can
pummel some sense into Chris Faylor, feel free.  The test code is in
the public record, at least.
