Hasn't this been discussed earlier on the list? I believe that somebody
has (rightfully) said that sometimes (when demonstrating the GUI),
people
actually WANT to have the menu captured. In case I don't, I use the
keyboard to trigger the snapshotting. If you ask me, the old way was
better, but it really is no big deal if you leave it the new way as
well.
This patch only affects the high resolution screenshot facility as
provided in the menubar under the File menu and not the normal
screenshots as triggered with F3.
Do we want (m)any high resolution shot(s) with the menubar visible?
Let me just clarify ... the high res screen shot is a trick. You can
specify obscenely large resolutions such as 10,000 x 8,000 pixels.
Obviously our hardware can't draw a single screen that size, so we have
code that splits up this large area into smaller tiles and draws each
tile saving it off into temp. files. Then at the end it merges all
these smaller tiles together into one huge bitmap. This is useful if
you want to print a flightgear screen shot to --- oh --- say a mouse
pad, or a wall mural, or a corn field or something.
Originally we had a problem where the menu got drawn on each tile which
is not exactly useful. Not sure if this is the problem Erik was
addressing here.
