When I switch off the engine the ball gets pegged to the left regardless 
of brake state, but I think this instrument (turn coordinator + skid ball) 
is supposed to run of the vacuum provided from the engine so that is a 
reasonable behaviour.

Good question. When I try to trace it back through the XML files it seems 
to use /instrumentation/slip-skid-ball/indicated-slip-skid which I think 
is set by some C++ module. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the inner 
workings of FGFS.

Hopefully people with more knowledge on the subject will add to the 
discussion eventually.
