Nice pictures! Glad to see someone else driving external hardware with
Flight Gear. We are working towards FAA Certification as an approved
instrument trainer, using the JSBSim FDM. To my knowledge, this has not been
done yet. I believe ATC used a third-party FDM for their model, but am not
certain. Initially we plan to develop using the high-resolution analog
gauges in v1.0.0, and I have already adapted the panel graphics to the FAA
Type Certificate Data Sheet specifications. However at some point we would
like to switch to a actual glass cockpit, but that is going to take a
significant amount of development time yet. First thing first, I guess.
I am curious whether the folks that used the Elite hardware found it
necessary to fine-tune many of the property values specified in the
aircraft's XML ("prop") files? I haven't gotten to try this yes as the
hardware just arrived a day ago, but I anticipate that this will be
necessary to enhance the realism of the emulation. As I mentioned, it is
nearly impossible to determine how realistic the model is using just a
joystick. However I feel that the 172's model (especially using Jon's FDM)
is extremely accurate--at *least* as much so as Elite's model. And in fact
this has been confirmed by a fellow pilot friend with much more time in the
aircraft than I have. So I do not anticipate any problems.
Thanks for posting the pictures!
