I added this pre-v1.0 and it made a huge performance improvement for
situations where all I wanted to see was a full screen instrument panel and
didn't care about drawing the out the window view at all. (Like with a
multidisplay cockpit arrangement.) I'm not sure this feature survived the
OSG port though, and it may not be as critical any more? Everything being
equal, it sure wouldn't hurt to keep this option intact and save a few cpu
cycles avoiding unneeded work when the situation is appropriate ... but it's
not really at the top of my priority list anymore.
