AI flights that use their departure airport for arrival are indeed currently not allowed. This is something that I would like to support in the not too distant future, and just looking at the code, it does look like this isn't something that is really too hard to do. I've been looking at src/Traffic/Schedule.cxx, and probably have a reasonable workaround that would allow to support this.
