It has some filter that is supposed to keep out unwelcome users, but it isn't working too well. The trouble is, checking ping is not enough. A half-working automatic solution may be even worse than none at all, because people would think it works and care even less about mp server selection. How about adding an on-screen message (ie. not in the terminal) while starting in mp mode, something like: "You are now connected to serverXX.
