During discussions on IRC, the idea came up of creating a downloadable
bundle of the new gitorious fg-data repository. The primary reason is
to make the initial clone operation resumable in case the connection
breaks. Our understanding is that git isn't currently capable of that.
It could also be spread using alternate methods, such as bittorrent.

I thinks whats real handy here and its new..

is that github are now offering a "read-only" snapshot of a git repos via
SVN..

I cant wait to see what will happen, but this is a VERY interesting
development for me. Indeed am in a vortex as it doth change the way I could
distribute applications at the moment to my clients as a day job, I'm using
both git and svn..

which is
--- Update Path ---

Here is de scenari0,,

What I want is for a someone to aqquire the "terrain for swanea and south
wales and the local patch", stick it on a memory stick with some capacity,
then bicycle up the road to a friend out on Cd, leave the bike on the lawn,
Stick in the Memory USB stick and its "cloned locally somehow".

What we need to look at I thing is more a terrasyc cache and snapshot, svn
is throttled and indeed probably fine tuned my google and we can certainly
thanks them for that very reliable service. for free ;-)

We can also wrap the apt.dat changes in this maybe and even have area CD's
and a "min set" or "less features" for distribution hints... eg drop big
models.. or drop detail...

We need to nobble Martin Spott about this probably..

and James

We tested FG and had fun with a shuttleBOX, with Ubuntu debian, and had
three windows clients running on XP with the "samba scenery share".. kinda
setup samba for readonly, TTSx and lots of Xp vars..windows.FS is actually
quite bad imho. and its horrible towards write positive and locking.

The next test I would like to do is to have a few memsticks and mount them
somehow..

eg Spain Memstick.

Lets thinks like kids cos their cool at bootlegging, want the latest stuff
and updates and wanna distribute it. Would take some load off the download
servers ;-)

ie a limited regional set packed into X space..
however I want to update...

ALSO
Important here is to update aircraft in sync also.. ie have a set developed
there..

pete

We need working groups guys..

We need to DEPARTMENTALISE a BIT and have more than one of us working on an
issue.. and actively resarching it..

What I would like however, is to have a terrain "snaphot"..

At the moment at my home I use dual screen and slow 1g machine, and running
the mpmap on one side and atc on the other is slow and cool, its goes dead
slow when its hits paris for example.. and that the sheer models..
