The correct option is --fg-aircraft. --aircraft-dir is (presumably) an older option that is unrelated to the new aircraft infrastructure recently developed by James. I actually ran into the same issue earlier on. I can't recall what the original intention of the --aircraft-dir option was, and wonder whether it should be retained in the current code base.
