Well, I'm a user of the TerraGear toolchain for a couple of years now
and I've been experiencing crashes in 'fgfs-construct' from the very
early attempts - even without customized but instead also with using
just the stock VMap0 land cover data.
Ralf Gerlich has spent a lot of time into investigating the various
causes and found out that not only the code itself is affected by bugs
(as every piece of software is) but also the entire _design_ of the
polygon-clipping and -cleaning is desperately begging for improvement.

To my experience, things are getting worse the more detailed the land
cover data is. Why do you think am I trying to assemble a replacement
for the entire vector processing stage ;-)

Cheers,
        Martin.
