specify the audio device to use"?????  Yes, I have 
tried quite a few variants of this on my devices:

3.  "PortAudio Software"

..the normal way I see elsewhere, is like ' --sound-device="0" or 
' --sound-device=0 ' or --sound-device="PulseAudio Software" ',
for the PulseAudio alternative.
