Hi all,
Quite a lot of people within the FG world has been asking to include some of
the PAF projects into the official FG git
repository. The team is now ready to do so, and is ready to issue the
corresponding merge
requests:
- one concerning a new joystick configuration file ;
- one concerning the beloved GPS Garmin GPS196 - a really nice piece of art -
see here http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15433 ;
- finally, the revamped DR-400 jsbsim some of you might already have tested -
and hopefully - loved. See here
http://equipe-flightgear.forumactif.com/t886p135-robindr-400-jsbsim-120cv if
you want some screenshots (the text is in French but hopefully the screenshots
don't have to be translated). Also here on the international forum:
http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15472&p=151509#p151487 .
More projects are to come later on. The team would like to emphasize the
following points:
- the GPS has been completely made from scratch and can be implemented in a lot
of aircrafts missing fixed standard GPS;
-
the DR-400 is a fork from helijah's 3D model. This choice to make a
fork has been made in accordance with the GPL licence and considering
the difficulties - already discussed here (and not the subject of this mail) -
to work with the original
author of the sole 3D model. The original author has kindly been informed. The
3D model has been enhanced, new liveries have been made, a complete
overhaul of the FDM has been designed using jsbsim and tested by
real-life DR-400 pilots. Last but not least, the cockpit is now - at
least that's what the team has been told - one of the best available in FG -
thanks to the use of GPL pictures taken by members of the team.
The team really hopes you like those improvements and more are to come soon. As
you may have understood, this team is strongly willing to avoid having a
separated git repository and wants to contribute directly to the FGdata git
repository so
everyone can enjoy those contributions and make FG one of the best
simulator ever.
Please see the "CREDITS" file within the merge requests for a full list of the
people involved.
If someone with commit rights can kindly accept those requests, that would be
great. The first merge request concerns the GPS and is here:
https://gitorious.org/fg/fgdata/merge_requests/139
N.B. : we are aware that the "fork" process is not the best way to work in
open source. However, this is the proper, legal and kindest solution in this
case. If you want to discuss this specific point, maybe it can be discussed in
a separate thread (how to deal with them (naming, duplicate files, etc.)).
However, given the quality of this contribution, I don't think another sad
discussion as we've seen before has to delay those contributions anymore. I
think we have to accept forks - and see how they do with time.
All the best,
Olivier
