Well it's Monday, I have spent the last two days first
crashing my PC totaly, then recovering what I could of
an almost unreadable drive (ALL MY FAULT OF COURSE) I
was in a hurry Sat and walked away during trying to
shrink a partition, when I returned the comp was
trying to reboot but could not read the drive. Anyway
to make a long sad story short I ended up copying what
I could off my 2nd HDD to CD, formating and loading 98
again. Using SLAX I was able to access the unreadable
partition on my C drive and copy it over to D(6GB, I
was wrong about the capacity so sadly some stuff was
lost) probaly junk I needed to clean out anyway.

I did partition the 40 GB drive so I have a 35.5 GB
primary and whatever is left with a logical partition.

So now I am at the point where I can do almost
anything, I might as well put LINUX on a drive so what
version is "best" easiest, and will support my
hardware? The SLAX Live CD ran with the exception of I
had to start it in GUISAFE mode or my compaq presario
1510 monitor would go to standby. Sound card was
working and mouse loaded fine as long as I pluged it
into the ps2 port (win98 was giving me fits with the
ps2 port only locating the mouse every 3rd or so boot
so I run it from com1)

I also discovered my bios lets me set boot order,
flopy,CD,HDD0, HDD1,HDD2 etc. Not sure if a logical
drive would be recognised but I could put Linux on the
d drive 6gb.

Suggestions please, I don't mind downloading another
flavor but with a 56k connection I don't want to have
to download several to find one that works.

Perhaps when all this is over I can actualy try
Flightgear ;)
