fgfs version 0.9.8 compiled from the source tar ball on Suse 9.2 running
on a 64 bit AMD Athalon. I had originally installed version 0.9.3.89
from the Suse distro, but removed it before compiling 0.9.8.
I've tried downloading scenery files from
ftp://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/flightgear/ftp/Scenery-0.9.8/ and
un-taring them into /usr/local/share/FlightGear-0.9.8/data/Scenery. I've
added --fg-root=/usr/local/share/FlightGear-0.9.8 to ~/.fgfsrc and
specifying it on the command line. I've also done the same with
--fg-scenery. But no matter what I try, setting my location to an
airport outside of the SFO area either gives me a beautiful blue sea, or
puts me at SFO. I know there's something obvious I'm missing - probably
right out of the "Book of Duh!", but for the life of me I can't figure
out what it could be.
Suggestions while I still have my sanity greatly appreciated. :)

Worked like a charm. Thanks for the explanation.
