Hi guys,
Also have a GeF2 MX card (32Mbyte) .... working on some other things (yes relaxing over the Xmas break is one of them) and have got this suggestion on my "things to try" list. Will update on progress ASAP

It seems the people who have been following this issue are all hung-over from their Christmas drink, so you may have to wait for an answer on this one. I
haven't been following it that closely.  I do believe that FG-0.9.8 didn't
have this problem.

I looked back through the list archives and found this that may help you:

"This one is easy to test, just rename the Textures.high directory in the
root of the base package to something else. This will prevent FlightGear
from using high resolution textures and revert to low resolution
textures instead."

Maybe that will help?
