Hi,
Downloaded E170S50.tgz and unpacked it to the "c"\Program
Files\FlightGear098\Scenery" folder.
Then ran FGv098 with out changing any paths or anything.
The 0.9.10 Scenery unpacked to two new folders in the "Scenery" folder;
"Terrain" and "Objects"
so now I have both \Scenery\E170S50.... and \Scenery\Terrain\E170S150....
When I ran FGv098, it picked up the Scenery from the terrain/objects folders
instead of the old (\scenery\E170S50) folders.
The scenery was a big improvement...my trial flight was from Paraparaumu to
Wellington... the Paekakariki hills as better, the Ngauranga gorge now
exists and Mt Victoria and the Miramar peninsula are more accurate. (Big
Kudos to Curt!).
I have no idea how FGv098 knew to pick up data from the different places but
it did.
Will try the Wellington to Christchurch flight this arvo, I keen to see the
Southern Alps that Chris has refered to.
Cheers

Hi Chris,
I have set the path in the wizard and it works fine....however. When it
loads the new 910 scenery the runway is in a small depression but
everything else is ok. If I click on "location -> Select Airport From
List" and select NZCH from there it gives me something completely
different. The cool part is I get to see an Airport and runways, taxiways
etc....but then I see a large lake on one side and the ocean on the
other...and hills in the wrong places. Christchurch is flat. Sure we have
the port hills but apart from that its flat. The ocean is nowhere near the
airport (atleast not as close as the sim would have you believe...) and
there arent any lakes either.....a nice river called the Avon but no
"lakes."
Thats a little bit odd. Perhaps parts of the tar.gzip file have not
been extracted? The depression might be the giveaway, as NZCH is
not far above sea-level...a small depression could mean the elevation
data at that spot hasn't been unpacked. Perhaps delete the 'e170s50'
folders from your scenery 'Terrain' and 'Objects' folders, then try
installing again?
Sorry if this sounds picky but the other scenery is fine but with no
objects like an airport, the new scenery is fantastic but it has lakes and
hills in the wrong places. Is there anyway for me to correct this or
combine the 2 and get an accurate version of Christchurch?
Try the above, and if that doesn't work it may be a bug either
with your gzip/untar software or your version of fgfs...
Oh, and the Avon is a beautiful spot. If I got $1 for every decent
brown trout I'd lifted from that river as a kid, I'd have a few...
:-)
Kind regards,
