I didn't understand all of that message either. With computers there
are always 101 ways to do everything and mulitply that by 1000+
different linux variants, you can sometimes get some advice that doesn't
apply 100% to your situation.
Did you say you were running FC4?
Generally to install the nvidia drivers:
1. goto the nvidia.com page and download the linux drivers.
2. Type Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go to a text console (hold down ctrl + alt and
type F1).
3. Log in as root.
4. Quit X11 (in the case of the redhat variants such as Fedora Core you
would run 'init 3' to do this.)
5. Run the nvidia driver install by typing "sh NVIDIA......." replacing
the NVIDIA..... with the actual name and location of the driver file you
downloaded.
6. Answer the questions, if the install fails, read the messages and the
install log output, that's usually quite helpful in pointing out what
went wrong.
7. After the driver install completes successfully, run "init 5" at the
root prompt to start X11 back up again.
After you do this a couple times you can do it in your sleep. :-)
