Hey Chris

Got Atlas running on my ol' clunker while I flew from Paraparaumu to Wellington (piper cherokee) on my partners PC.... it was freaky watching the progress of the flight on my PC while flying on my partners.... update was good even using hi res maps (1024x1024) on a P1-166 and a 10Tbase network.

Finally got T1 internet running too.... anyone wanna help me through MP? :-> ...will search the FG site for documentation first... :-)

geez ...still grinning ear to ear from just getting atlas to work

Hi there,

Hi Chris, been looking around and reckon $700-$1000 will get me a good platform. Do you recommend 64 bit platform?

Yes I do. The Athlon64 runs 32 bit software very nicely, and
64 bit software runs even better.

I was thinking Sempron 3400+ (2G,256 L2 cache), PCI-E 256/512Mbyte 6000/7000 series nVidia geForce, 7200rpm HDD a must (80G WD about $NZ100), 100/10TBase NIC.

Sempron is good, Athlon64 would be noticeably better, but either
way combined with a 6xxx/7xxx series GeForce would run fgfs very
well.

I gather I have to get a special version of XP to run 64bit... would FG benefit?

A 64 bit version of fgfs running in x64 Windows XP will be nice,
but I'm not recommending x64 Win XP yet due to reports of a lack
of 64 bit drivers for some 3rd party hardware. The normal 32 bit
Win XP and fgfs will run just fine anyway...

Kind regards,

Chris Wilkinson, Brisbane, Australia.
