Here are my two cents: I don't think this AC3D-only or Blender-only or so-and-so-modelling-tool-only thinking is a good way to look at things. Speaking from experience, I would say that one should use whatever tools that are available to put models together. If there is a part that AC3D could do well, then AC3D should be used for that part. However, if another part would be easier to create in Blender, then Blender would be the choice for the part. If one happens to have access in AutoCAD, then splines should obviously be done in AutoCAD.
