I could make a template just for repaints, but then the user would lose the benefit of all my layers in the original gimp file. How big would a 1 bit (black and white) PNG file be at 2x or 4x? This would allow others to do repaints easily, using it as a guide for making new texture files. What do the other layers include? Yes, it doesn't help for other aspects of the model, but repaints are the most common mod to models.
