I asked a simple question for simple information, and was told "no". Unfortunately, someone pretty much had to make a federal case out of it. The cop who was looking to talk to me didn't seem too hellbent on laying charges, and probably wanted more to ascertain that I wasn't planning anything destructive (I'm not sure how much more clear I could've gotten in my request for information, stating exactly what Flightgear was and what I wanted the data for). I assume they forwarded him the email, and he went based by my gmail signature (It stated where I used to work), eventually finding my folks. They were spooked because they thought I was in some sort of trouble, as he didn't tell them much. I'm not too worried at the moment, but I'm sure someone put a red flag by my name.
