OK, I offer an apology. Having seen the article and got some context, I agree 
that it happened. Still it looks suspicious (probably says more about photos on 
the internet in general). Would the prop been at very low rpm for this 
manoeuvre? 

Some estimation... The horizontal blur is about 6 inches (150mm), and if the 
aircraft speed was 100 knots (51 m/s), then the shutter speed would have been 
0.15/51=1/340s (ie 1/250 or 1/500 or a digital which does whatever it likes) 
which is believable. 
If the prop was rotating at 1000rpm, then this would be 16 rps, and thus a 
1/340s exposure would show a blur of ~17°. I would estimate that the blur on 
the prop is less than that, but it is within the range allowed by the level of 
estimation I have made.

The shadow looks odd, but the foreshortening effect of a long lens can do that. 
Looking again, the vertical distance (in pixels on the image) from wingtip to 
wingtip is the same as on the shadow.

I have convinced myself. Impressive flying.
