Looks like they were very lucky with that one.

Coming down so short of the runway fits with reports that the pilot 
had lost all power only a short time before touch-down and if so he 
did well to get that far.  Some reports almost seem to suggest that 
the undercarriage failed but that would be inevitable if it landed 
on soft ground with a high rate of descent.

If it had come down only a few tens of yards earlier it would have 
been a disaster.
