First off - I can't help you with the crash but my Windows PC does not have enough umph to run Full Screen do I just run windowed. As to how to change aircraft there are a wealth of startup options you can use when invoking fgfs like --aircraft=c172 which causes it to use the c172 Cessna. Look at the docs directory and see if you have pdf (or something like that) called getstart.pdf.
