Hi,

this has been done before, I guess. I just wanted to point out that
FlightGear is excellently qualified to serve as an UAV testing environment.

I've been developing a Linux based UAV for some years now. After having
accomplished a stable airfield traffic pattern just by in-field-testing
I was confronted with the task of programming autonomous approach and
landing. Therefore I set up a simulation environment with my autopilot
software and FlightGear in a loop. That helped me debug the more complex
maneuvers quickly. Although the autonomous landing is yet to be tested
in reality I assume FlightGear saved me a lot of time and material.

Many thanks to all developers who designed the simulation in such a open
and versatile way!

For more information on my project see

BTW: Has anyone ever created a 3-channel model airplane like the
Multiplex Easy Star (one without ailerons) for FlightGear?

Kind Regards, Achim.
