Boy, this stuff is sure hard to express in words -- I don't think I have 
any idea what you have in mind.

What is a row?

Maybe a sketch, or prototype code, or something?

Though you seem to be making progress on your own, anyway, so you can 
let us know when you've got it working. It does sound interesting in any 
case.
