It's there in my copy of 0.67. Line 1022.
My apologies, I had been looking at the wrong section of the code. Some further analysis with gzip shows that the ft files produced by the flow-gen utility are very compressible, but the ft files produced by a live flow are not. Infact, enabling compression on live flows at all seems to burn CPU without saving any appreciable space :)
