I can see what you are getting at, but can't seem to get my head around
it.
I've attached a link to an RRD file from one of our IP addresses.  Each
IP address has a separate RRD file.
http://dude.powerserve.com.au/~rosst/rrd/example.rrd

If you get a moment, maybe you could have a look and give me some
pointers..

I'll see if I can find anything on the rrdtool lists aswell !

Rather than using rrd to graph the data, you would need to use the
rrdfetch (or rrddump to dump out XML) command to get a txt output of the
data you need, and then parse & store into an SQL db.

I cant give you specifics as I'm not sure on the details of how your
setup stores the data in the RRD's.
