You can say that again! I had some code where we deliberately contrived to have either "fltk-native" or Cairo as the back end renderer - sure the Cairo looked nicer (well, except on OSX where the difference was hard to discern, built-in anti-aliasing and whatnot...) but the performance difference was appalling - even on pretty high-end hardware, the Cairo version was unbearably slow. So we stopped using it.
