Kurt describes xwd as a little awkward and clarifies he wants to write a file from his application instead of running a separate application (e.g., via "system(...)").
I could be wrong, but I don't think FLTK supports access to the server-side images. You can send such images, but retrieving them is another matter. Doubtless the underlying X protocol supports it, but FLTK may not be much help. Perhaps someone else will chime in.
