Well, tricky.

Xft isn't so bad... As long as you can put your font file somewhere that
fontconfig will find it (and can trigger fontconfig to actually find
it!) then it kinda just works. But you might need root access to do
that, so some sort of installation process, with permissions and such,
might be required.

Don't know how fonts are added to OSX at all - never tried that.

Under win32? Not sure, I have a vague recollection of being able to load
a font file from disk, but that's just a vague memory and I haven't
actually checked the docs!
