David,
What do I need to do to make the GeneralUser GS license comply with
Debian's Free Software Guidelines? I believe GeneralUser's only
restrictions currently are to prevent people from selling the work
(since it's available for free) and to keep others from claiming the
work as their own. If there is a good existing license I could put it
under that would make it gel with other OSS projects, then I'm all
ears. I love Linux, and I would love for my work to be able to be
included with distros & other projects if so desired.

About soundfonts, there is the fluid-soundfont-gm (and
fluid-soundfont-gs) that is in the Debian/Ubuntu repository, is licensed
under MIT, and sounds pretty good. It's quite large though (145 MB).

It seems to me like neither Christian's GeneralUser_GS, nor the
VintageDreamsWaves-v2 (that comes with a SVN checkout) complies to
Debian's Free Software Guidelines, as they both restrict modification in
some way. So they will most likely be removed from the Debian package.
I know that Linux is bigger than Debian (and that Fluidsynth is bigger
than Linux!) and that other distributions are unaffected by this
limitation, I just wanted to add that point of view.

As a service to Linux users, I propose that the 'GeneralUser GS
FluidSynth v1.43.rgd" file written by S Christian Collins be made
available as part of the new release distribution. Configuring
rosegarden with this 'studio file' makes rosegarden work seamlessly with
fluidsynth/qsynth when used together with Chris' soundfont:
'GeneralUser_GS_FluidSynth_v1.43_RC1.sf2 '.
It is also noteworthy to mention that with this setup, MIDI rendering in
rosegarden using fluidsynth worked without any timing errors.
Thanks Chris.
