I like the way the goal is stated now. I would also like to add
something about it's goal to help us design consistent interactions
where it makes sense. In Sakai, a common complaint is that similar
activities work differently so users have to continually relearn and
figure out which instance works in which way. By documenting best
practices we can reuse these patterns across the applications.

Hi folks,
Earlier this week I summarized the results of our first Open Source
Design Pattern Library (OSDPL) pattern working group (http://www.nabble.com/Open-Source-Design-Pattern-Group-meeting-today---next-meeting-Wednesday%2C-May-14th-tt17118098.html
) and inadvertently gave a wrong date in the message body (though
the subject was right) for the meeting. It should of course be:
Wednesday, May 14th from 10-11am PDT/1-2pm EDT.

* If possible, please also log onto Fluid's Breeze teleconference
server (http://breeze.yorku.ca/fluidwork) during the meeting for
shared meeting notes and chat functionality.
Hope to see many of you there! Now for the moment you've all been
waiting for--the OSDPL question of the day!
---------------------------------
At http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Design+Patterns+Library+Proposal
<linkext7.gif>, our proposed goal reads:
"The primary goal of the design pattern library will be to introduce
design patterns as a way to design usable, high-quality user
interfaces in specific contexts ("a proven solution to a common
problem in a specified context"). The library will have a practical
focus, intended mostly as a tool for junior/new designers as well as
developers. It will not focus on creating a complete pattern
language, or describing patterns in a more academic sense."
Is this the best statement of our goal? Can we add to this and flesh
it out more?
--------------------------
We invite all members of the design pattern working group (and other
interested parties) to create a succinct response to this question
and either respond to this email or post to: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/OSDPL+Discussion+Questions+and+Answers
Look for one more discussion question tomorrow (or if you are really
anxious you can see that it's already on the Questions & Answers
page!) to think about and discuss prior to our meeting on Wednesday.
Thanks for your input!
