Hi everyone,

Thanks so much to the folks who contributed thoughts on the mailing list to the Open Source Design Pattern Library "Questions of the Day" (http://wiki.fluidproject.org/x/Howk) and attended the group meeting yesterday to further flesh out our goals and think about our target audiences. The meeting notes (a big thanks to Colin for taking such great notes!) can be found here: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/x/ 0Ywk. Please feel free to add to or modify them.

Here are a few highlighted outcomes from the meeting:

1) MAILING LISTS: Due to problems sending messages to multiple mailing lists, we are going to move all the design pattern discussion to the low-traffic fluid-talk mailing list. Please make sure to subscribe to the fluid-talk mailing list (see http://fluidproject.org/ index.php/mailing-lists) to participate in our discussions--we'd really like to encourage your participation in this conversation! I will send messages to all the mailing lists announcing important events, but will leave the more detailed discussion to fluid-talk.

2) MEETINGS: Due to a conflict for some attendees with the 10am PDT/ 1pm EDT Wednesday meeting time, the meeting will move to 11am PDT/2pm EDT Wednesdays. However, the weekly meeting may not always be a full group meeting; it may instead be used for a smaller working group meeting. This Wednesday 5/21 11am PDT will in fact be just a small working group meeting, as Daphne, Jess, and Allison will be working together to develop a short mission statement and list of goals for the project based on our discussions thus far. Others who would like to work on this are welcome to attend if interested, but it is not required. We will have another full group meeting the following week at 11am PDT/2pm EDT. We will continue to use the teleconference line for talking at our meetings as well as the Fluid Breeze server (http://breeze.yorku.ca/fluidwork) for notes and sharing URLs.

3) DESIGN PATTERN LIBRARY DATA ELEMENTS: Allison & Colin have inventoried/studied other design pattern libraries' data elements. Colin sent his analysis (http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/ confluence/display/DESPAT/UI+Design+Pattern+Format) out to fluid-talk last Thursday. I've attached my inventory of data elements to the main Design Patterns page on the Fluid wiki: http:// wiki.fluidproject.org/download/attachments/1706231/ PatternLibraryDataElementInventory_ver02.xls (along with another report Erin Yu and I worked on about how screenshots and licenses are used in various pattern libraries: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/ download/attachments/1706231/DPInventory_ver2.doc). The data elements at the top in red at the top of the DataElementInventory_ver02.xls file seem to be very common; the ones in orange are also popular so we may want to consider including them as well. There was an interesting discussion about data elements in pattern libraries a while back on the ui-pattern-authors Yahoo! group/mailing list which begins here: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ui-pattern-authors/ message/8. (You must sign up to become a member of the group to view the messages.)

4) DESIGN PATTERN LIBRARY PROPOSAL WILL REMAIN LIVING DOCUMENT: The Design Pattern Library Proposal: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/x/wg8a I started writing at the beginning of the project will be a living document which we will update as we make decisions about how the OSDPL will work. I anticipate that most edits will flow from our work on the OSDPL Discussion Questions & Answers (http:// wiki.fluidproject.org/x/Howk).

5) OSDPL QUESTIONS OF THE DAY/WEEK (http://wiki.fluidproject.org/x/ Howk): I will now send out discussion questions for the group in bunches of related questions whenever it makes sense. This means you may in some weeks receive just one email with multiple questions. Look for this week's questions shortly!

Thanks again to everyone for all the work you are doing to make the OSPDL a fantastic resource!

Allison
