In the Section Info based inline edit discussion I offered up these icons from MS Word that show both the Undo and Redo state at the same time (in different colors to further differentiate them.

And I'll add to the discussion that Google docs uses similar arrows. Not as pretty, no color differentiation and they don't dim at the beginning and the end of the Undo stack. (Damn, Google is both very cool and really half-assed at the same time.)

But both of these apps are in the context of Word Processing, so I don't think that it's really applicable.

Remember to include "alt="Undo"" and "title="Undo"". :-)

Yup, that's definitely the plan. :) We're actually trying to decide what to use (which icon, or text) for user testing in Eli's prototype and will definitely be ready to make changes if the functionality isn't clear to users.

Anyone else have ideas about this?

I think there's something to be said for familiarity. The arrows that Eli copied from MS Word looked quite familiar to me, and would to many users, I imagine. It may not be a standard, but that kind of backwards-
sweeping arrow seems to be becoming a 'de facto' standard.

More importantly, I think user testing should inform this decision.
Let's get some people looking at our sample, and find out if they
understand an arrow! Isn't that the point of doing user testing? ;-)
