Hi, Swarupa (DIA Education/Interpretive Specialist) and I have been having an ongoing exchange about audio tours at the DIA. Below is a transcript.
We're going to talk on the phone on Wednesday @ 12:30. This is a good opportunity to ask more questions about the "guide by cell" and "on cell" tours they're considering for the upcoming Richard Avedon & Through African Eyes shows. I've followed-up with her to see if she'd mind having other people participate in the conversion. Thanks, Alison Hi Alison-- Yes, visually impaired tour, the director's tour, and the youth tour can all be accessed through the same audiotour wands. We rent the wands from Acoustiguide, who developed all of the tour scripts in close collaboration with us (Learning and Interpretation). People are informed of special labels to look for in the galleries. Each has a different icon for the different tour --a bow tie for the Director's Tour (because Graham always wears a bow tie) --a magnifying glass for the Youth Tour --and a symbol that looks like this: D)) for the visually impaired. (see attachment) So one can come upon the Brueghel Wedding Dance and might see one or more of the labels, enter the number and hear the corresponding tour. descriptive audiotourfor our blind and visually impaired audiences: Acoustiguide developed the script and recordings for their audiotour wands. Generally, we don't have access to the recordings because it's copyrighted material, but if we ever wanted to do so, we might be able to purchase them. We do have written transcripts, but they're not for reproduction or other uses. Hope this helps.
