Hi all,

Today, during our community meeting, we brainstormed possible ideas/topics for
our potential (one or a couple) hackathone/workshop event. We also tried to
mark it as simple as possible based on 2 criteria - simplicity and our
community interest, both on a scale from 1 to 5.

Here is the list of ideas (simplicity/interest):
- Creating accessible mobile apps (3.4/3.4)
- Self-voicing websites (4.4/3.4)
- Accessible notation (1/1*)
- Crowd sourcing resource authoring (3/4*)
- Infusion + Node.js (4/2.5)
- Educational workshop on building accessible websites (5/3.8)
- Accessible Video (3/3.2*)
- Drawing/Playdo/LEGO web page builder (authoring tool) (2/5)
- Commentary on web modalities e.g. wordlessweb (2/1)

* On FLOE critical path.

Some of these topics might require more than a single day event. At the same
time there are some ideas that people were really enthusiastic about and would
be willing to volunteer their time for.

It would be great if we could come up with a definitive set of ideas that we
would actually follow through with during the Summer Code Party so please share
your preferences, thoughts and considerations.

Hi everyone,

After chatting with Michelle and Alex and seeing their enthusiasm I wanted to
propose hosting a Summer Code Party at the IDRC on June 23rd (or possibly a
later date). This event is part of Mozilla Webmaker initiative and intended to
encourage and engage learning and creativity on the Web. You can see the
details in the email attached. We could host something in the format of a Hack
Jam - https://webmaker.org/en-US/events/guides/.

Michelle proposed an awesome idea that James and Joanna were thinking about
within the Floe framework - crowd sourced alternatives to existing content but
other ideas are always welcome :).

I think we can facilitate a unique event given our focus on design and not just
code

Ideas?

Hi Yura,

We're really excited about Mozilla Webmaker — the new initiative we launched
last week to help users of the Web become makers of the Web. If you're already
creating content online — uploading videos or photos, blogging or even tweeting
— then you're already on the path to webmaking. The program features new and
improved tools, tutorials and projects for all skill levels.

We know that people learn best when they're making something together. So we're
inviting people everywhere to meet up, make something cool, learn how the code
behind the Web works — and have a blast while doing it.

It's called the Summer Code Party, it kicks off on June 23rd — and we need you
for it to be successful, by hosting a Summer Code Party of your
own.<https://donate.mozilla.org/page/m/29b5e2e9/6a88eea9/1740dc97/5c8cc8cd/2433725097/VEsE/>

These events are quick, easy, and fun — in as little as 30 minutes, you can
have a handful of friends around your kitchen table, easily hack a webpage or
make something new with our tools, and have something awesome to brag about.

Webmaker.org<https://donate.mozilla.org/page/m/29b5e2e9/6a88eea9/1740dc97/5c8cc8cc/2433725097/VEsF/>
has everything you'll need to get started: put your event on the map and
calendar (if you want it to be public), check out our easy-to-use event guides
and try the tools that will help you and your guests make and learn.

All you'll need is a kitchen table, internet access and some friends to start
making, learning and sharing your projects on the Web. And if you want to do a
bigger party, we've got guides for organizing Hack Jams and Pop Ups, too.

So what do you say? Is the inner webmaker/teacher/innovator in you stirring?

Yes, I want to get started hosting an
event.<https://donate.mozilla.org/page/m/29b5e2e9/6a88eea9/1740dc97/5c8cc8cd/2433725097/VEsC/>

No, but I want to donate to support the webmaker
initiative.<https://donate.mozilla.org/page/m/29b5e2e9/6a88eea9/1740dc97/5c8cc8cf/2433725097/VEsD/>

And if you want to see what one of these "kitchen table" events might look like
in action before signing up, a bunch of Mozillians have run some test events —
you can check out a few of the recaps

Thanks for being a part of the Summer Code Party, and I look forward to a
summer of making awesome stuff with you.

Ben

P.S. — If you feel like you're not qualified to host an event but still want to
learn, don't worry. You can get there by going through our tools (especially a
new tool called "Thimble" that we're launching next week), or you can attend a
summer code party event in your area if someone starts one.
