I'm forking this from the other thread because this topic can potentially
generate a good discussion. :)
Security is probably the main reason we are switching certain sites to
static pages instead of a CMS. For sites that are mostly text content and
have low interaction, a static site made sense.
Also, moving to a static site allows us to use github to version control
all the content, and have a peer review process for modifications.
Finally, static sites don't break with updates the way a Wordpress site
would (for example). This is very appealing.
The big downside is that editing content and the publishing workflow is
significantly less friendly than using a nice GUI on a CMS. There are some
github-docpad editors available, but we have yet to investigate those
fully.
As for choosing Docpad specifically - it is widely supported, has a large
repository of plugins, and allowed for easy plugin authoring if we needed
it.
We're still getting the hang of using docpad, but so far it's been good.

This is rather off topic but I'd be interested in the rational for using
docpad. I've been recently thinking again about static sites for security,
speed etc.
